01/ Overview
The route
This scenic sledging run from Rigi Burggeist offers guaranteed fun off the beaten track. Passing over a sun terrace on the southern slope of the Rigi down to Gschwend above Gersau, tobogganers are treated to a panoramic view of Lake Lucerne along the way.
The descent begins at Rigi Burggeist by the Burggeist (Rigi Scheidegg) stop, right beside Restaurant Burggeist. The highest point is at the start, at around 1,550 m. Below Rigi Scheidegg, the sledging run sets off across open slopes, while the summit itself lies away from the route. Over roughly three kilometres, it descends a good 500 metres, through a landscape dominated by broad meadows and pastures.
After a little over half an hour, the descent approaches Gätterlipass and passes Restaurant Zum Gätterlipass. From there, only a short final section downhill to Gschwänd remains. The entire run takes around 40 minutes. The sledging run ends in Gersau, Gschwänd, at around 1,000 m and just a few steps from the Gersau, Ober Gschwend bus stop.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Sledding is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
