01/ Overview

The route

Not far from the economic hustle and bustle, a toboggan run offers some laid-back fun for the whole family on Zug's local mountain. If there is enough snow, the thrilling ride on the Schlittelstrasse runs from the Zugerberg mountain station to the Schönegg valley station.

The sledging trail begins just a few steps from the Zugerberg stop at around 930 m, the highest point on the route. Restaurant Zugerberg stands right by the start, between the hamlets of Schönfels and Vordergeissboden. From here, the three-kilometre descent initially leads downhill across open terrain. It quickly loses elevation and soon enters the forest.

Among the trees, the descent continues in longer stretches. Forest characterises most of the route and extends almost as far as the lower edge of the settlement. Around halfway, a fountain stands directly beside the trail. Further on, lighter sections alternate once more with dense forest until the first houses of Schönegg appear towards the end. After around 360 metres of descent and approximately 40 minutes, the sledging trail ends at the Schönegg stop at around 560 m.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Sledding is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
