01/ Overview

The route

On this trail, snowshoe hikers have three attractive companions by their side: The alpine scenery of the Lauterbrunnen valley with the world-famous mountain trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau can be seen for the entire round trip. At Chänelegg there is a beautiful moorland area.

The snowshoe tour begins at Mürren BLM station, in the heart of the mountain village. The route climbs gradually between the houses and soon leaves the built-up area behind. Open slopes initially dominate the landscape; towards Allmihubel, the ascent becomes steeper. The summit itself lies off the circular route.

Just over halfway round, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,840 m. The descent begins here, leading close to Mittelberg and through wooded slopes. Farther down, woodland alternates with open ground before the first houses of Mürren reappear. Towards the end, the route descends to its lowest point before climbing gently back to the village. After around four kilometres and just under two hours, the snowshoe tour ends back at Mürren BLM station.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
