01/ Overview
The route
A panoramic view like no other: From Leiterhorn, the entire length of the Lauterbrunnen valley can be seen. Another magnificent sight is the view up to Jungfrau mountain and the striking, pyramid-shaped Silberhorn peak.
The circuit starts in Wengen, just a few steps from the station. From the village the path leads past Restaurant 1903 out onto open slopes; the terrain gradually gains height and later runs into a longer forested slope. At about 1'525 m is the highest point, just below the Leiterhorn, where the route flattens briefly.
The descent runs over open alpine meadows and through stands of trees back into the settlement. Towards the end there is another view over the houses of Wengen before the path returns to the station. The route measures roughly 5 km, takes about two and a half hours and involves about 280 metres of ascent.
