Gimmelen Trail

With its steep rock faces and waterfalls plunging hundreds of metres, the Lauterbrunnen Valley leads you into a magical world that already captivated famous writers and filmmakers. The snowshoe trek on the hills surrounding the valley will delight you with views of the mighty peaks of the Bernese Alps, contrasted by charming alpine huts on the sunny slopes.

From Mürren station on the Schilthornbahn, the snowshoe tour initially leads out past the houses of Mürren. The route climbs gently across open terrain, gaining around 200 metres in elevation. After the first ascent, the highest point is reached near Bryndli at just over 1,800 m.

The route then turns downhill. The open slopes gradually give way to forest, and the longer descent defines the second half of the tour. Spielbodenalp lies slightly off the route, while the Sprutz waterfall is not reached directly either. Alternating between clearings and forest, the route now loses considerable elevation.

After a total of around five kilometres, the houses of Gimmelwald come into view. The route finally reaches the lower-lying village and ends after about two and a half hours at Gimmelwald station on the Schilthornbahn.
