01/ Overview
The route
Snowshoe hiking in the shadow of the imposing north face of the Eiger: far from the hustle and bustle of the piste, this trail connects the middle station of the Männlichen line with Brandegg. Downhill for the most part, this route passes through stretches of woodland and open terrain. Occasional clearings reveal an impressive panorama of the jagged peaks of the Oberland.
The roughly five-kilometre snowshoe tour begins at the Holenstein stop. Shortly after the start, it reaches its highest point at just over 1'620 m, near the Wysshorn. From there, the route mostly heads down towards the valley, quickly losing elevation. Alternating between open ground and stretches of forest, the terrain remains varied, with short counter-ascents interrupting the long descent.
After about two-thirds of the route, the lowest point is reached at around 1'330 m. From here, the route climbs gently once more and continues through the forest towards Brandegg. Grindelwald, Brandegg is reached after just over two hours. The stop is located immediately beside the finish.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
