01/ Overview

The route

A steady climb across damp meadows and flower-filled alpine pastures. Along the way, information panels describe life on the alp and the art of cheesemaking, before the historic Chäs-Chessi awaits at Tannigsboden.

The Mürebachbrücke lies away from public transport links; it is just over two kilometres from the Kemmeriboden stop to the starting point. From there, the mountain trail climbs almost continuously. Via Müllerschwand, the route, signposted as number 7, leads through forest and damp meadows before opening out onto flower-filled alpine pastures. Information panels describe life on the alp, the alpine school and the production of alp cheese; two of them are written in Bernese German.

After around three kilometres and just over an hour, almost 350 metres of ascent have been completed. The highest point of the route lies at around 1'475 m, right by Alp Tannigsboden. Here stand the historic Tannisbode-Chäs-Chessi and an alp kiosk offering local delicacies. The difference between mountain cheese and alp cheese is also explained along the way. The hike ends on the alp; the nearest public transport stop, Ebligen, is around three and a half kilometres away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
