01/ Overview
The route
A steep mountain trail leads from Rossweid across rocky alpine pastures and ridges to Brienzer Rothorn, offering sweeping Alpine views and chances to spot ibex and golden eagles.
The gondola carries hikers from Sörenberg to Rossweid. The mountain trail, marked almost throughout with white-red-white waymarkers, begins at the mountain inn. It initially climbs across open pastures and through damp hollows to Blattenegg. With almost 850 metres of ascent, the route already demands a good level of fitness.
Above the pass, the terrain becomes considerably steeper. The path crosses rocky alpine pastures, scree slopes and narrow ridges to Lättgässli at around 2,200 m. Sure-footedness is essential on this demanding section. With patience and sufficient distance, ibex can be observed on the slopes; golden eagles may also be seen circling above the ridges.
From Lättgässli, the mountain trail continues in a steady series of ascents and descents towards Brienzer Rothorn. The view extends across the Alps and down to Lake Brienz. At Restaurant Rothorn, the route reaches its highest point at just under 2,300 m, below the 2,348 m summit. A little later, the trek ends at the Brienzer Rothorn cable car, ready for the descent into the valley.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
