01/ Overview
The route
A long, demanding ridge stage high above the Entlebuch: the mountain trail leads to the Brienzer Rothorn, past the Eisee and down across open alpine pastures to Sörenberg.
The stage begins at Rossweid, a few steps from the stop after the gondola ride from Sörenberg. The mountain trail climbs across open pastures to Blattenegg, followed by a steep ascent to Lättgässli. Near the Brienzer Rothorn, the route reaches its highest point at just over 2,300 m. The summit is the highest elevation in the canton of Lucerne.
From the ridge, a distinct descent leads to Eiseesattel. The Eisee lies below, and Berghaus Eisee is also set in this mountain landscape. The trail then continues in a steady succession of ascents and descents across the open slopes around Arnihaaggen, Höch Gumme and Arnifirst. Near the Augstmatthorn wildlife reserve, there are chances to spot ibex, chamois or golden eagles.
After the long high-level trail, the route gradually loses more and more elevation. A short section runs outside the marked hiking trail network, after which the descent continues across pastures. After just under eight hours, the first houses of Sörenberg and the valley station of the Brienzer Rothorn aerial cableway near the Sörenberg, Post stop are reached.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
