01/ Overview
The route
Winding through wet meadows, alpine pastures and woodland, the Long Moor Loop offers a playful introduction to the world of moors. A short family walk from Rossweid featuring puzzles, animal stories and the Moor Water Park.
The loop begins at the Rossweid upper station, which is reached by gondola lift. Shortly after the start, the mountain trail enters the moorland landscape of national importance. At the moor telephone, animal figures tell stories about plants, animals and their survival strategies, while puzzles and research tasks turn the walk into a family expedition. Peat grows here by only around one millimetre per year.
The trail climbs through moorland and open pastures to its highest point at around 1,540 m, near Schwarzeneggchnubel. It then continues gently up and down across Türndlimoos towards Alp Salwide, where a suckler cow herd may be encountered. Between wet meadows and short stretches of woodland, views repeatedly open out across the extensive moorland.
On the return leg, the route descends to a broader hiking trail. The Moor Water Park is located at Mooraculum Sörenberg, before the final metres lead past Berggasthaus Rossweid. After just over an hour and around four and a half kilometres, the loop ends back at the Rossweid upper station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
