01/ Overview
The route
A demanding ridge hike from Rossweid to Brienzer Rothorn, with steep mountain paths, rocky heights and, with a little luck, ibex, chamois or golden eagles.
The gondola climbs from Sörenberg to Rossweid, where the first stage begins at the mountain inn. The mountain path ascends across open pastures and through boggy hollows to Blattenegg. It then climbs much more steeply towards Lättgässli. The demanding mountain path requires sure-footedness almost throughout; by the time the ridge is reached, much of the total ascent of around 870 metres has already been completed.
At the top, an alpine ridge walk leads through rocky terrain. Near the Rothorn mountain restaurant, the route approaches Brienzer Rothorn and reaches its highest point at just over 2,320 m, just below the 2,348 m summit. It is the highest elevation in the canton of Lucerne. Ibex have been reintroduced to this area; with a little luck, chamois, marmots and golden eagles may also be spotted.
A steep descent leads from the ridge through open, increasingly rocky terrain to Eiseesattel. The path then levels out and traverses the slopes above Eisee. After a little over three and a half hours, the stage ends at Berghaus Eisee.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
