01/ Overview
The route
Bog forests, wet meadows and open alpine pastures characterise this circular hike through a wetland of global importance. The mountain trail climbs to Blattenegg and returns to Rossweid via Alp Salwide.
The Moorland Circular Trail begins at the Rossweid upper station, just a few steps from the stop. The Sonnentauweg initially leads to interactive stations focusing on this protected habitat. At «Barefoot in the Moor», the soft bog ground can be felt first-hand. The route climbs gradually between wet meadows and a bilberry-covered raised-bog forest with gnarled mountain pines.
The mountain trail then continues via Schwarzenegg to Blattenegg. At around 1,630 m, just below Hunds-Chnubel, this is the highest point of the circular route. The trail now descends into the Laubersmad-Salwidili moorland. Open pastures alternate with damp hollows; a herd of suckler cows may be encountered at Alp Salwide. Butterflies, dragonflies and orchids all thrive in these protected habitats, as does the carnivorous sundew.
From Husegg, the route turns back towards Rossweid. Towards the end, the trail widens and re-enters the forest. The circular hike of just under ten kilometres ends after around three hours at the fire pit and Berggasthaus Rossweid, directly beside the Rossweid upper station and stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
