01/ Overview
The route
From the Niederbauen mountain station, the trail climbs across open Alpine pastures to the 1,919-metre Niederbauen-Chulm. The summit offers sweeping views into the depths below; to the north and east, the mountain falls away in steep, rocky cliffs.
The Emmetten–Niederbauen cable car leads directly to the starting point at the mountain station. From there, the one-and-a-half-hour summit hike begins gently across open pastures; the trail briefly loses a little elevation before the main ascent begins.
Via Hofad and Alp Tritt, the route climbs increasingly steeply. The hiking trail becomes a steeper mountain trail, while the slopes remain largely open. The higher the path climbs, the farther the views reach into the depths below; along the precipitous northern and eastern edge, the mountain reveals its rocky side.
After around two and a half kilometres and a good 350 metres of ascent, the Niederbauen-Chulm is reached. The 1,919-metre summit lies on the border between Nidwalden and Uri. At the top, the ascent ends at the rocky edge, with sweeping views across the mountains of Central Switzerland.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
