01/ Overview
The route
This short family hike from Stockhütte to Emmetten is almost entirely downhill. Woodland alternates with open pastures, with occasional views of Lake Lucerne.
The hike begins at the Stockhütte mountain station at around 1,280 m, which is also the highest point on the route. From here, the waymarked hiking trail leads almost continuously downhill. Between woodland and open pastures, views repeatedly open up across the mountain panorama and Lake Lucerne. From Stockhütte, the trail heads towards Rinderbühl; the steady gradient and straightforward route make it well suited to a family hike.
Over a little more than four kilometres, the route descends around 520 metres. After the longer stretches through woodland and across pastures, the first houses of Emmetten draw closer towards the end. The hiking trail continues into the village and, after a little over an hour and a half, finally reaches the valley station in Emmetten. Wirtschaft Post and the PostBus stop for onward travel towards Beckenried or Stans are located right by the finish.
