01/ Overview
The route
This route leads from Schaffhausen up to the Jura heights. From there you follow a circular path into the Eschheimtal valley. The path is, sometimes wooded, sometimes lined by meadows and fields and will gladden the heart of anyone seeking tranquillity and relaxation.
The nine-kilometre circuit starts on the outskirts of the city at the Schaffhausen, Riet bus stop. The Klusbach stream soon accompanies the yellow-waymarked hiking trail. The route climbs gently between open meadows and stretches of woodland, gaining around 150 metres in elevation overall. After the first third, the highest point is reached at around 575 metres. A little further on, the Wolfsbuck barbecue site in the heart of the forest offers an opportunity for a break.
The Klusbach then remains a constant companion for much of the way. The trail undulates gently through the forest, returns to open countryside and gradually turns back towards Schaffhausen. The landscape remains varied on a small scale, with clearings alternating with dense stretches of woodland. Towards the end, houses and roads draw closer again before the circuit ends after just over two hours at the Riet bus stop.
