01/ Overview
The route
The mighty Rhine Falls delight every nature lover with a powerful interplay of water. This circular route leads through the attractive region, past Schloss Laufen (castle) and along the idyllic banks of the Rhine.
From Dachsen railway station, the seven-kilometre circuit initially leads through the village before climbing to Schloss Laufen. The complex dates back to the Middle Ages and was subsequently renovated several times. Near Galgenbuck, the route already reaches the highest point of the hike at around 410 m. Open meadows, the edges of settlements and short stretches of woodland then alternate.
The trail approaches Neuhausen am Rheinfall in a broad arc. At the viewpoint on Rheinweg, the river landscape takes centre stage. Shortly afterwards, the view opens up onto the Rhine Falls: measuring 23 metres high and 150 metres wide, they are among the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. The route then continues along the edge of the settlement before entering the forest once more.
Towards the end, a short section runs outside the marked hiking trail network. The circuit closes via Nohl before the trail returns to Dachsen railway station after just under two hours.
