Schaffhauser Grenzweg

This section combines Europe's largest waterfall with Switzerland's largest continuous wine-growing area. As you hike from one boundary stone to the next, geology and history are the key themes. Along the way: the "Grey Stone" at boundary stone no. 67, and the ruins of Radegg Castle.

The roughly 14-kilometre hike begins at the Neuhausen, Industrieplatz bus stop. The Rhine Falls are not far from the starting point, but the route soon leaves the built-up area behind and enters the forest. Yellow-marked hiking trails lead through a peaceful succession of woodland and open meadows for a good three and a half hours. Several gentle climbs add up to around 360 metres of ascent.

The Wasenhütte offers an opportunity for a break, after which the trail passes Rossberghof. Near Wannenberg, the route reaches its highest point at around 620 m. This is followed by the most striking place along the way: the ruins of Radegg Castle. Built around 1200 and destroyed around 1300, this spur castle stands high above Wangental on a rocky promontory that drops steeply away on three sides. The final section once again leads through the forest, reaches Bad Osterfingen and ends in the village of Osterfingen. The Lindenhof bus stop is just a few steps from the finish.
