01/ Overview
The route
A panoramic high-level route across the Beichle: the steep ascent is rewarded with far-reaching views before the trail continues through moorland meadows, forests and the peaceful Hilferntal to Flühli.
From Escholzmatt railway station, the route leads past the first houses to the Alpach farm. Here the mountain hiking trail begins, climbing steeply through alternating stretches of forest and open alpine meadows. It ascends via Hutten and Beichlengfähl to the Beichle, whose highest point lies at around 1,750 m. At the Beichlenkreuz in Bösarni, the panoramic views extend as far as the Bernese Alps, the Jura and the Feldberg.
A long descent then follows via Ober Schwarzeberg and Bärfalle. Boggy meadows with orchids and cottongrass alternate with sections of forest; the mountain trail passes close to the Hilferepass before continuing into the Hilferntal. The Schrattenblick Friends of Nature house lies a few minutes’ walk off the descent route.
In the lower valley, the route leads to the Schwandalpweiher with its Kneipp facilities. For the final stretch, it follows the Waldemme to Flühli. The hike of just under six hours ends at the post office, immediately beside the Flühli LU, Post bus stop.
