01/ Overview
The route
A gentle family walk through meadows and pastures: the Geo Trail leads from Escholzmatt via Wiggen to Marbach without any major ascents or descents, with play areas and picnic spots along the way.
The pushchair-accessible trail begins at Escholzmatt railway station and soon leaves the houses behind. The Geo Trail descends gently between meadows and pastures. It tells the story of how the landscape was shaped during the Ice Age; along the way, picnic spots with shelters and tables offer places to take a break.
The route continues via Gigen to Wiggen, the lowest point of the walk. At Kreuzmatte, a barbecue area and playground provide space for a longer stop. The trail then remains open and easy to follow. With no major climbs, it passes meadows, isolated houses and the Schachenhus-Weiher pond on the way towards Bachmatte.
In the final third, the route begins to climb again almost imperceptibly. Marbach draws closer at Geissenmoos, and shortly before the village the trail follows the Schonbach stream. The destination, at around 870 m, is also the highest point. The Marbach LU, Bergkäserei bus stop can be reached from the village in just a few minutes.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
