01/ Overview
The route
A gently descending family hike from Escholzmatt to Schüpfheim, across open meadows and through quiet stretches of forest. Along the way, barbecue sites and playgrounds invite leisurely breaks.
From Escholzmatt railway station, the Wissemme Trail initially climbs through the village and via Bühlti. After around one kilometre, it reaches its highest point near Bärgli at about 900 m. From there, the route descends mostly gently through open meadows and pastures, with some sections passing through the Bühlwald forest.
The trail continues via Feldmoos to Lehn and through the broad, rolling landscape of the Entlebuch. It keeps close to the Wissemme before briefly following the Waldemme. At Gasthaus Bad, the route passes directly through the small hamlet before entering the forest once more.
In Sagewäldli, there is a playground, outdoor fitness equipment and a barbecue site with a covered log shelter. Firewood and two grills are also provided, and with a little luck, squirrels may be spotted among the trees. Beyond this final stretch of forest, the first houses of Schüpfheim come into view, and the trail leads through the village to Schüpfheim railway station.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
