01/ Overview
The route
The scenery around “Seewis” is charming all year round. The winter is most spectacular in the „Islatal“ where you find a winter wonderland of snow and ice.
From the Seewis Dorf, Bühelstrasse bus stop, it is just under 200 m to the starting point of the winter hike. The route leads through the houses of Seewis Dorf, passing the Kurhaus and Schloss Salis. The village is soon left behind, giving way to open meadows and pastures.
The winter hiking trail climbs in a broad arc. Between open slopes and wet meadows, it gains height gradually; higher up, sections of woodland bring a distinct change of scenery. Below the Crupspitz, roughly halfway along the route, lies the highest point at around 1'060 m.
The circuit then descends again towards the village. Open terrain accompanies the return route until the first houses of Seewis come into view. After around seven kilometres and just over two hours, the winter hiking trail ends back in Seewis Dorf, just under 200 m from the Bühelstrasse bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
