01/ Overview

The route

Leaving from the hamlet of Steg, the trail leads along a mountain river through an idyllic winter landscape with many pine trees up to the open meadows around the Alp Valüna hut.

The winter hike starts in Steg. The village is not served by public transport; the nearest stop, Weite, Plattis, is around 6 km away. From Steg, the route climbs gradually across open meadows and pastures. After just over an hour, roughly halfway along the route, it reaches its highest point at around 1'400 m.

The route then descends again. The terrain remains open, and the descent is just as gentle as the climb. After a total of just over two hours, the circular hike ends back in Steg.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
