01/ Overview
The route
Fossils and Alpine folding accompany the mountain trail between Ziger and Maschgenkamm. This short high-altitude route crosses open alpine pastures, passes two cols and ends at the Prodkamm mountain inn.
The geology trail starts on Alp Panüöl, near the Maschgenkamm station. Before long, the narrow mountain trail runs below Ziger towards Zigerfurgglen. The 2,074 m summit remains just above the route. The GeoGalerie Flumserberg focuses on fossils and the formation of the Alps; the barbecue area offers a place to take a break.
The route continues across open alpine pastures, gently rising and falling to its highest point at around 2,010 m. A picnic room and the Maschgenkamm panoramic restaurant are nearby. The trail then descends more noticeably to Maschgalugge. A short section is unmarked before the mountain trail passes the rocky Maschgenkamm.
The final section descends across open slopes. After just under four kilometres and around an hour, the route reaches the Prodkamm mountain inn and ends a few steps farther on at the Prodkamm station.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
