01/ Overview
The route
The Tschingelhörner, the famous “Martin’s Hole” and the Tectonic Arena Sardona UNESCO World Heritage Site at a glance – experience all this on the Hengstboden-Weg winter hike.
It is only a few steps from the Empächli bus stop to the starting point in Elm, Ämpächli. The winter hike initially crosses open terrain, descending gently over the first 500 metres or so. The profile then changes: the trail climbs, gradually accounting for most of the roughly 200 metres of ascent. Meadows and pastures characterise this section of the four-kilometre circuit.
Around halfway, the route reaches its highest point at approximately 1'650 m. It then descends towards the valley in a broad arc, alternating between open terrain and woodland. Towards the end, the first houses of Ämpächli draw closer. After just under an hour and a half, the circuit returns to the starting point, with the Empächli bus stop right beside it.
