01/ Overview
The route
Take it easy on the Weissenberge, the sun terrace of the Sernf Valley. This leisurely winter hike to Schiben is a perfect way to enjoy the tranquillity of nature and the views of the Elm mountains and the upper valley.
The winter hike starts from the Weissenberge stop above Matt. The short circuit initially leads gently downhill across open terrain. The route is soon accompanied by the Waldibach before climbing again and passing directly by the fire pit at Mühlemad. It then continues uphill across meadows and pastures, with open views across the slopes.
Around halfway, near Gulichopf, the trail reaches its highest point at approximately 1,400 m. The route then descends in gentle curves back towards Weissenberge. In the final third, it passes the Berggasthaus Edelwyss. The last section crosses the open slopes once more, gradually losing elevation. After a total of around four kilometres and just under an hour and a half, the circuit ends back at the Weissenberge stop.
