01/ Overview
The route
The Betelberg hides a fascinating place with an extraordinary scenery: the Gryden. The crater-like, bizarre rocky landscape can be explored on this high-altitude circular trail. It leads from Lenk's local mountain along the south side of the 'Stübleni' to the refuge and back.
The circular hike begins at the Leiterli mountain station on the Betelberg, just a few steps from Berghaus Leiterli. The mountain trail, marked white-red-white throughout, crosses open meadows and pastures to reach the broad, undulating ridge. With no lengthy approach from the valley, the altitude soon makes itself felt, although the total ascent remains manageable at around 320 metres.
The route continues towards Stübleni in a steady succession of ascents and descents. After around three kilometres, the highest point is reached at approximately 2,100 m. From here, rocky terrain increasingly defines the trail, while the ridge retains its open character. Rather than heading directly for a summit, the hike describes a compact circuit through the high ground west of Lenk.
The return route descends the elevation gained, following the mountain trail back to the Betelberg and ending at the Leiterli mountain station. A little over two hours should be allowed for the seven kilometres. The appeal of the circuit lies in the interplay between open alpine pastures, barren rock and the gentle ridge of the Betelberg.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
There may be snow on this hiking trail. Bring appropriate gear and plan accordingly.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
