01/ Overview

The route

From Trubschachen, the high-level trail climbs through the rolling Emmental countryside to Rämisgummehoger. Open alpine pastures, benches along the ridge and the border with Entlebuch accompany the route to Grosshorben.

From Trubschachen railway station, the trail leads out of the village, home of Kambly biscuits. Beyond the last houses, the long ascent through the rolling Emmental countryside begins. Mostly crossing open meadows and pastures, the yellow-marked hiking trail climbs via Houenenegg and Oberhouenen to Chäserenegg. By this point, much of the roughly 600 metres of ascent has been completed.

The scenic high-level trail now follows the border between Emmental and Entlebuch. Via Rämisgummen, the route reaches Rämisgummehoger, its highest point at just under 1,300 m. In spring, white and purple crocuses add splashes of colour to the open meadows, while benches line the ridge.

Beyond Rämisgummen, the trail skirts the wooded Pfyffer, whose summit marks the boundary between Eggiwil and Escholzmatt-Marbach. The final stretch leads to Grosshorben. Here, the hike of just over three hours ends away from public transport; the nearest stop, Marbachegg, Talstation, is just under 3 km away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
