01/ Overview
The route
The trail crosses natural meadows and wooded heights on its way up to the Wachthubel. Sweeping views of the Emmental, the Entlebuch and the Schrattenfluh accompany the descent to Marbach.
From the Wiggen, Egghus PostBus stop, the hiking trail climbs via Binzberg before descending to Schärligbad. Restaurant Schärlig-Bad is a good place to stop for coffee before the next ascent to Grosshusegg begins. Between stretches of woodland and open natural meadows, the route continues via Balmegg to Grosshorben, where simple refreshments are available.
Via Ober Bergegg, the trail climbs to the Wachthubel. At around 1,400 m, it is the highest point of the hike and also a scenic summit between the Emmental and the Entlebuch. The view extends across Marbach to the striking Schrattenfluh. A longer descent then follows via Buchschachenegg, with the option of a detour to the Lourdes Grotto along the way. Near Marbach, the route passes the mountain cheese dairy with its buffalo mozzarella and finally follows the Schonbach for a short stretch. After a good four and a half hours, it ends at the Marbachegg valley station, immediately beside the PostBus stop.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
