01/ Overview
The route
From Holzwegen, the trail climbs along the broad ridge of the Napf region to its highest summit. Pastures, stretches of forest and sweeping views of the Alps and the Swiss Plateau accompany the steady ascent.
The steady ascent to the Napf begins at the Romoos, Holzwäge PostBus stop. At the Holzwägbeizli, the route leaves the handful of houses behind and quickly gains elevation on a broad hiking trail. Open meadows repeatedly reveal views across the Napf region, while quiet stretches of forest lie in between.
The route continues along the broad ridge towards Änzi. Nearby lies the Änziloch, a place steeped in legend. At Oberänzi, just over three kilometres from the start, there is an opportunity to stop for refreshments. A short descent follows before the final climb steepens again, alternating between pastures and forest.
The Napf is reached after about one and three-quarter hours. At around 1,400 m, it is the highest summit in the Napf region; the distinctive triangulation point and the Berghotel Napf stand at the top. The ridge offers views of the Alps and across the Swiss Plateau. The summit is some distance from public transport; the nearest stop, Mettlenalp (Napf), is just over one kilometre away.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
