01/ Overview
The route
The charcoal makers of Romoos are the last to practice the ancient craft of charcoal burning in Switzerland. The thematic path explains this skill in more detail. The trail leads across mountain ridges and through wild canyons and is a good representation of the landscape in the Napf mountain area.
The hike begins in the heart of the village at the Romoos, Post bus stop. The yellow-marked trail passes the Church of St Mary Magdalene and soon leaves the settled area behind. Beyond the houses of Lingetli, the landscape is dominated by open meadows, pastures and woodland. Rather than climbing steadily, the route rises and falls continuously, accumulating a total ascent of around 880 metres.
After around six kilometres, the highest point is reached near Chnubel at approximately 1,160 metres. The trail now gradually loses altitude, continuing to alternate between open sections and woodland. Despite the descent, several uphill sections remain before the destination. After a total of eleven kilometres and just over four hours, the hike ends in Bramboden. The Bramboden, Kirchplatz bus stop is right by the finishing point, while the Pilgerstübli is also only a few steps from the route.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
