01/ Overview
The route
Raised bogs and fens, traces of peat extraction and the ascent to Wissenegg define this circular hike in the Entlebuch. From the railway station, it leads via Finsterwald and Chilenwald back to the village.
From the Entlebuch, Bahnhof bus stop, the route leads through the village and past the Church of St Martin. Meadows and stretches of woodland soon begin to alternate; at times, the path also leaves the marked hiking trail network. In Mettilimoos, the moorland trail proper begins, crossing raised bogs and fens. Four information panels tell the story of this protected landscape and of peat extraction during the two world wars. Historical equipment can be seen in the peat hut, while a bog-treading basin offers a tangible experience of the distinctive ground underfoot.
The trail then climbs across open countryside and through woodland to Wissenegg. Near the summit of the same name, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,280 m. The descent leads past the houses of Wissenegg to Finsterwald, with the Dietenwart-Gräben gullies dividing the slopes along the way.
The route continues downhill via Chilenwald and Burg. At the Entlebuch castle site, the moat recalls the former stronghold before the first houses of Entlebuch come back into view. After a good four and a half hours, the 14-kilometre circuit ends at the railway station.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
