01/ Overview
The route
Historic sunken lanes lead from Entlebuch up to the panoramic Rengg. The route then descends through forest and raised bog to the Kleine Emme, returning through its protected floodplain landscape.
The roughly twelve-kilometre circular trail starts directly at Entlebuch railway station. Passing the first houses, the route leads to Lehn before climbing steeply along historic sunken lanes and the former packhorse trail. At the restaurant on the Rengg, a pass in the canton of Lucerne, a sweeping panorama awaits.
Climbing a little higher, the trail reaches its highest point near Schrotchnubel at just over 1'000 m. It then continues through the Unterwald, where new woodland is growing in an area affected by a former landslide. A bench and table stand amid the trees. Around Zittermoos, raised bogs shape the landscape and are associated with a legend about a horse-drawn cart.
The longer descent brings the route to Ebnet. Beer and gin are produced at Lindenhof, where tastings are available. Soon the Kleine Emme dominates the scenery. The Emmenuferweg follows a water-shaped floodplain landscape of national importance, with two picnic sites beside the river. The route returns via Emmenmätteli and through Wilzigen to the houses of Entlebuch and the railway station.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
