01/ Overview
The route
The cross-country ski trail connects the Isel Reservoir, snow-covered mountain pine forests and an impressive mountain panorama. The view of the Altein Waterfall and the Welschtobel valley, crowned at its end by the Arosa Rothorn, is a highlight.
The six-kilometre cross-country ski trail begins in Arosa, Isel. The nearest public transport stop, Arosa, Untersee, is around 400 m from the start and finish. Initially, the loop winds through forest and climbs steadily. With a total ascent of around 90 metres, the climb is spread over the first half. After a little over two kilometres, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1,640 m, near the Schiesshorn.
It then emerges into more open terrain. Between meadows and occasional rocky sections, the loop gradually loses elevation again. In the final third, the Arosa reservoir comes into view; the trail runs directly alongside the water, also known as the Iselsee. From there, only a short loop across the valley floor remains before the route ends back in Arosa, Isel after a little over an hour and a half.

How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
