01/ Overview
The route
«Tamangur»-fairytale name for Europe’s highest-lying pine forest (Pinus cembra) - is today’s highlight. A steep climb over the old Costainaspass with pleasing descent past the Alp Astras (fresh products available) to the idyllic, small village of S-charl.
From the «Lü, cumün» bus stop, a short approach leads to the starting point in Lü. On leaving the village, the mountain trail passes the listed Reformed church and climbs through open meadows and Alpine pastures. For a short while, it follows the Aua da Laider before continuing to Pass da Costainas.
After just over five kilometres, the highest point is reached at around 2,250 metres. The pass links Val Müstair with the Lower Engadin and also forms the headwaters of the Clemgia. The long descent through Val S-charl now begins across broad, open terrain, initially over Alpine pastures and still following the white-red-white-marked mountain trail.
In the middle section, the forest draws closer. The route passes through God Tamangur and then steadily loses altitude as the valley gradually opens out. After a total of 15 kilometres and just over four hours, the houses of S-charl come into view. A few steps farther on, the hike ends at the S-charl bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
