01/ Overview
The route
The hike through the Lower Engadine offers insights into the Rhaeto-Romanic language and housing culture. The breathtaking views of the three-thousand-metre peaks, the Schellen-Ursli village of Guarda and a ruin that dates back over a thousand years enrich this hike in the silence of the mountains.
The hike of around 15 kilometres begins at Scuol-Tarasp station. The white-red-white marked mountain trail climbs from Scuol to Ftan. Open meadows alternate with stretches of woodland between the settlements. A village fountain in Ftan provides an ideal spot for a first rest.
The route then continues with steady ascents and descents along the slopes of the Lower Engadine. The Chanoua ruins stand directly beside the trail a little over halfway along the route. Ardez is reached shortly afterwards. Beyond the village, the trail continues to alternate between open pastures, woodland and small settlements.
After Ardez, the mountain trail continues towards Guarda. Near the end, the route gains height once more, reaching its highest point at around 1,670 metres shortly before the finish. In Guarda, the trail passes close to Restaurant Crusch Alba. The Guarda, cumün bus stop is only a few steps from the finish. Just over four hours should be allowed for the entire hike, which involves around 740 metres of ascent.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
