Senda Scuol–Samnaun

An impressive route over sunny terraces with colourful dry grassland and superb views of the mountain world. On the way: a typical Engadine village, hanging bridges and mountain trails, passing lakes, waterfalls and glacier residue.

From Scuol-Tarasp railway station, the route initially leads through Scuol and onwards to Sent. Beyond the houses, the long ascent begins: through forest and across open alpine pastures, the mountain path climbs steadily higher. At around 37 kilometres, with 2,300 metres of ascent and a duration of roughly 14 hours, this is an exceptionally long hike.

High above the Lower Engadin, the terrain becomes more barren and rocky. At around 2,600 m, the Fimberpass links the Lower Engadin with Tyrol’s Paznaun valley and separates the Silvretta from the Samnaun Group. The route then remains in the rocky high mountains and climbs to the Fuorcla da Val Gronda. Near the pass, at around 2,750 m, lies the highest point, below Piz Val Gronda.

From Zeblasjoch, the path turns decisively towards Samnaun. The long descent leads from open slopes back into the forest and to the first houses. Past the Maria Hilf chapel, it is only a few more steps to Samnaun and the nearby Samnaun-Dorf, Post bus stop.
