Senda Scuol–Samnaun, Stage 1/2

Over flower-filled meadows, with wonderful views along the sunny slopes of the Engiadina bassa, before turning into the wild, forested Val Sinestra, past historic buildings, climb to the scenic Fimberpass, the pass to the Heidelberger Hut.

The long mountain hike starts at the Scuol-Tarasp stop and leads through Scuol. Beyond the last houses, the trail climbs between woodland and open slopes to reach Sent. From there, the route continues further into the valley, initially through alternating stretches of forest and later increasingly across meadows and alpine pastures. The roughly 25 kilometres take a good eight hours and involve around 1,700 metres of ascent.

After the long middle section, Hof Zuort and, shortly afterwards, Griosch lie directly on the route. From there, the terrain becomes more barren. The mountain trail climbs from the pastures into rocky heights and finally leads up to the Fimberpass, the highest point of the hike at around 2,610 m. The pass connects the Lower Engadine with Tyrol’s Paznaun valley and separates the Silvretta from the Samnaun Group.

Beyond the pass, the route descends through open high-alpine terrain to the Heidelberger Hütte. The hike ends there, away from public transport; the nearest stop, Salaniva, is around 8 km away.
