Klettgau-Rhein-Weg

From the Hallau wine region, the route leads through the extensive forests of the Randen hill chain, over the old high-level trail to Schaffhausen. On the way: superb views from towers on the Randen and from the elevated villages of Büttenhardt and Lohn.

From the Hallau, Gemeindehaus bus stop, the hiking trail leads out of the wine-growing village to the Bergkirche St. Moritz. This late Gothic landmark of Hallau was built in 1491. Open fields, pastures and stretches of woodland then alternate until Schleitheim is reached after around eleven kilometres.

Beyond the village, the long ascent via Strickhof becomes noticeably steeper. In the forest, the route passes the ruins of Randenburg, a spur castle built around 1175. Near Chrisling, the highest point of the hike is reached at around 890 metres. The route then continues via Ebenhau through extensive woodland, heading east over constantly undulating terrain.

Meadows and houses only become more frequent again near Lohn. Shortly afterwards, the Cherzenstübli lies directly on the route, before the trail descends through the forest and follows the Wettewis for just over a kilometre. The final kilometres lead through the outlying districts of Schaffhausen into the city. After almost 46 kilometres and more than thirteen hours, the hike ends at Schaffhausen railway station.
