Klettgau-Rhein-Weg, Stage 1/2

In the Blauburgunderland at Hallau, the high-level trail leads over the three-armed Randen hill chain, through extensive forests, along the Swiss-German border. Wonderful views from the Randen tower Schleitheim into the neighbouring country and from Siblinger Randenhaus to the Alps.

From the Hallau, Gemeindehaus bus stop, the trail leads through the wine-growing village and past the Bergkirche St. Moritz. This late-Gothic building, dating from 1491, is Hallau’s landmark. The houses soon give way to open meadows and fields. The waymarked hiking trail climbs in long stretches, repeatedly entering the forest.

About halfway along, the route reaches Schleitheim. This is followed by the steepest part of the ascent: the trail leads via Strickhof up onto the wooded Randen. Near Chrisling, the route reaches its highest point at around 890 m. A little later, the trail leads to the ruins of Randenburg, a spur castle built around 1175 and abandoned in the 15th century. The nearby Waldwirtschaft Schlossranden is an ideal place for a rest.

The hike continues through extensive forest to the Siblinger Randenhaus, where the destination is reached after 19 km and just under six hours. The route involves around 900 metres of ascent in total. There is no public transport connection at the destination; the nearest stop, Siblingen, Dorf, is around 2.2 km away.
