01/ Overview
The route
Herb benches, open hills and sweeping views characterise this extended circuit near Hergiswil. Along the way, three themed trails tell of herbs, milk and cheese.
From the Hergiswil LU, Dorf PostBus stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point at Steinacher 2. The route initially climbs through open hills and soon reaches its highest point at around 790 m near the Ämmehorn. Benches named after herbs, along with herb plants and information panels, line the trail; views of Hergiswil and the hills around the Napf open up at regular intervals.
After the first loop, the trail descends again and passes Café Thalmann. Yellow-waymarked hiking trails alternate with longer sections outside the marked hiking trail network. Near Restaurant Kreuz, the houses stand close together; later, the route runs through Hergiswil bei Willisau and continues towards Grosslugental. The Kräuterbänkliweg, Milch-Kräuter-Käseweg and Chrüterhäxli Lilli Gwonderwäg themes provide the common thread for this part of the hike.
The final third once again crosses broad meadows and includes gentle intervening climbs. After just over five hours, the hike ends back at Steinacher 2; the nearest stop, Hergiswil LU, Luegental, is around 600 m away.
