01/ Overview
The route
Varied circular route under the crest of the Gisliflue in the Jura mountains of Aargau. Partly through the wood, and partly along the wood's edge, the route provides magnificent views over the Jura mountains close by to the entire Alpine range.
The starting point near Staffelegg is some distance from public transport; it is around 600 m from the Staffelegg, Passhöhe stop. The trail climbs through the forest right from the outset and, after about one kilometre, reaches its highest point at around 720 m. The Hombergegg remains to the side of the route.
The circuit then descends between wooded sections and open terrain to Gatter. It continues in a broad arc towards Gisliflue, whose summit lies slightly off the route. Halfway around the roughly eleven-kilometre circuit, the trail passes close to the Naturfreundehaus Gisliflue.
The second half is characterised by gentle ups and downs. Longer stretches of forest once again alternate with meadows and pastures before the route returns to Staffelegg after a little over three hours. From the finish, the nearest stop, Staffelegg, Passhöhe, is also around 600 m away.
