01/ Overview
The route
Moorland, litter meadows and wooded heights characterise the long stage from Flühli to Gfellen. Along the way are tranquil alpine farming areas, two mountain inns and the sulphur spring at Schimbrigbad.
From the Flühli, Post bus stop, the Moorland Trail leads out of the village and soon climbs along a mountain path. Sections of woodland alternate with open meadows and pastures. Various types of wetland can be seen in the Entlen moorland; the fens here are traditionally managed as litter meadows. The route leads via Schwändelifluh and Baumgarte to Finishütte.
After around nine kilometres, the trail reaches its highest point near Farneren at just over 1,460 m. The summit itself lies off the route. The trail then continues to First, where the mountain inn stands directly beside the path. A steady succession of ascents and descents crosses open alpine pastures and further sections of woodland to Neuhütte, with the Moorland Trail waymark showing the way.
The trail leads via Schwarzenbergchrüz to Schimbrigbad, where sulphurous spring water rises. Schimbrig remains above and to the side of the route, while the final descent leads via Stilaub to the houses of Gfellen. After a good seven hours, the stage ends near the Finsterwald, Gfellen bus stop.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
