01/ Overview
The route
The ascend leads from Lake Sils through unspoilt mountain forest and across glades to an altitude of 2,036 metres. The views of Lake Sils, the majestic mountains, the largely untouched Val Fedoz, the Val Fex and the wintry Upper Engadine are captivating. Head back through mountain forest via the boathouse to Sils Maria.
The snowshoe trail begins in Sils Maria at the Sils/Segl Maria, Alpenrose bus stop. Passing Restaurant Alpenrose, the circular route winds between the houses and out towards Lej da Segl. After just under one kilometre, Lake Sils lies directly beside the route. It is the south-westernmost of the three lakes on the Upper Engadine lake plateau; from the shore, the route turns into open terrain.
The main ascent now begins. Crossing open ground and passing through forest, the route steadily gains elevation as it heads towards Muotta da Güvè. Just over halfway along the six-kilometre route, the highest point is reached in this area at around 2,040 metres. The trail then descends again towards Sils Maria. Sections of forest alternate with more open terrain before the first houses reappear. After just under three hours, the snowshoe trail ends back at the Sils/Segl Maria, Alpenrose bus stop.

Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
