01/ Overview

The route

On this route you feel as though you are completely alone. You cross fields, forests and make your way alongside three lakes – an authentic «pure nature» experience. The crowning highlight is the Kartause Ittingen in Warth.

The approximately three-hour hike begins near the Nussbaumen TG, Schulhaus bus stop. The village is soon left behind as the trail crosses open meadows and fields towards Nussbaumersee. The route runs almost directly along the lakeshore. Together with Hüttwilersee and Hasensee, the lake forms part of the Hüttwiler Seen, which originated as terminal moraine lakes of the Thurgletscher glacier. Sections of woodland and a barbecue site add variety along the way.

The route then alternates peacefully between woodland, farmland and small settlements. Longer sections lie outside the marked hiking trail network, interspersed with stretches along broad hiking trails. Passing Hinterhorben and Vorderhorben, the route approaches Warth. Shortly before the village, it reaches its highest point at just under 500 m; the modest ascents are pleasantly distributed over the total distance of 13 kilometres. In Warth, the trail passes directly by the Catholic Church of St. Martin. From there, it descends gently to Kartause Ittingen, where the Warth, Kartause Ittingen bus stop is located right by the destination.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
