Thurweg, Stage 8/8

The eighth stage of the Thurweg trail runs on well-maintained and natural paths that extend along a meadow landscape. It initially follows the course of the Thur, which later flows into the Rhine. The destination for the stage, Rüdlingen, is an exclave of the canton of Schaffhausen.

From Andelfingen railway station, just a few steps from the starting point, the trail leads through the village. At around 400 metres, this is already the highest point of the hike. The route passes the Reformed church with its neo-Gothic tower. Shortly afterwards, the Alte Kanzlei recalls the former Altes Schloss, whose original function was taken over by the neues Schloss in the 17th century.

Beyond Andelfingen, woodland and open meadows alternate. The hiking trail winds through the landscape with only minor differences in elevation. After around six kilometres, a wildlife-viewing screen stands directly beside the route. Further on, wet meadows lead to the beaver-viewing platform, located just off the trail.

Towards the end, the route passes the campsite and Restaurant Stäubis. From here, a short, mostly level section remains to the first houses of Rüdlingen. After a total of 15 kilometres and just over three and a half hours, the hike ends at the Rüdlingen, Gemeindehaus bus stop.
