01/ Overview
The route
The seventh stage of the Thurweg starts in Frauenfeld and runs through natural and well-kept landscapes along the Thur to the destination for the stage, Andelfingen. The hike is characterised by a smooth transition from varied landscape to Andelfingen winegrowing country.
From Frauenfeld station, the long but gently undulating hike to Andelfingen begins. The trail initially leads to the Waldturm, before open fields and stretches of woodland replace the outskirts of the town. Near Warth, the route climbs to its highest point at around 420 metres. Shortly afterwards, it passes Kartause Ittingen, then continues along easy hiking trails to Uesslingen.
Beyond the village, water shapes the next section. The route first follows the Thur inland canal, then the Lehnenkanal through the broad plain. Meadows, fields and shady stretches of woodland alternate as the trail heads via Gütighausen towards Hausen. The terrain remains flat towards the end, and after around 24 kilometres the trail reaches Andelfingen. Near the finish, the Reformed church with its neo-Gothic tower and a fountain stand directly on the route. Andelfingen station is only a few steps away.
