Obersaxer Schneeschuhtrail

Short cross-country ski trail in the quiet part of Obersaxen. Behind the sleepy hamlet of St. Martin the route immediately begins to climb steeply. Powder snow and panorama are what counts here, on the way to the alpine settlement of Wasma: the views sweep across the plateau of Obersaxen, the Surselva district and the peaks on the other side.

The three-kilometre snowshoe circuit begins at Friggahüs, by the Obersaxen, St. Martin bus stop. Initially, the route leads out between the houses and climbs steadily across open meadows and pastures. Almost all of the roughly 240 metres of elevation gain are covered in the first half. With every step, the landscape opens up further as Sankt Martin recedes below.

Around halfway, near Chrizbial, the route reaches its highest point at just over 1,530 m. Here the gradient eases and the route turns downhill. The longer descent continues across open slopes to around 1,320 m, re-entering the settled area of Sankt Martin towards the end. Restaurant Mirer Conrad lies close to the route. A short final climb completes the circuit and leads back to Friggahüs and the Obersaxen, St. Martin bus stop.
