01/ Overview
The route
This physically challenging snow shoe tour on the sunny side of Val Medel leads through unspoilt winter landscapes up and beyond the tree line. Tegia Nova offers spectacular views of the peaks of Val Medel and the upper Surselva region.
From the Platta, vitg bus stop, the snowshoe tour initially leads through Platta and past Baselgia S. Martin. Beyond Drual and Matergia, the route quickly gains height. The houses are left behind as the ascent continues across open slopes, interspersed with sections of woodland. After just under four kilometres, the highest point is reached near Piz Ault at around 1'870 m. The ten-kilometre tour involves around 560 metres of ascent and takes just under five hours.
The long descent alternates between open terrain and woodland. Houses reappear at Mutschnengia, after which the route continues downhill via Pali. Towards the end, it reaches the built-up area of Curaglia and approaches the church of Sontga Clau. After around ten kilometres, the snowshoe tour ends in the village; from there, it is only a few steps to the Curaglia, posta bus stop.
