01/ Overview
The route
Lovely countryside alternating with wide-open snowfields and stretches of sparse forest are the features of this circular tour in the popular Pany snowshoe trekking area – and plenty of cosy mountain inns invite you to take a break.
The snowshoe tour starts at the Pany, Riedwies bus stop. At first the route crosses open slopes and damp meadows; the path gains altitude over mostly untracked terrain. After the first ascent the route reaches a ridge at about 1'734 m near the Hora. In places the track runs off marked paths, so breaking trail may be necessary.
The track then continues in a rolling alternation over alpine pastures, through wooded sections and past wet ponds. The Tratza-Beizli lies just beside the route and makes a convenient short detour. Between ridge and valley open flanks alternate with stands of trees; in the final section the route approaches the houses of Pany, passes the swimming pool, and the snowshoe tour ends at the Pany ski lift. The route measures around 8 km, requires roughly 440 m of ascent and about 520 m of descent; the actual walking time is just over four hours.
