01/ Overview
The route
Explore the forests above Grimentz on snowshoes. While the ascent affords views of St-Luc and Chandolin, the return journey promises an even more spectacular Alpine panorama with the Valais's 4,000-metre peaks as a backdrop.
The snowshoe tour, around nine kilometres long, begins at the Grimentz (télé) stop. The route initially passes through the village, close to the church of Saint Théodule. The houses are soon left behind as a long ascent leads into the forest. With a total elevation gain of around 520 metres, the circuit climbs steadily.
After just over a third of the route, the highest point is reached at around 2'060 m, with the Roc d'Orzival the nearest summit. Higher up, the forest opens out into meadows and pastures. The route then descends back towards the valley over several kilometres, reaching its lowest point in the final third of the circuit. From there, it climbs gently once more and approaches Grimentz. Between the forest and the first houses, the route leads back into the village, ending once again at the Grimentz (télé) stop after just over four and a half hours.
